Pollutech maintains a life sciences group, under the direction of Pollutech EnviroQuatics Limited, which is involved with "end-of-pipe" environmental effects monitoring. This group, in conjunction with Pollutech's Point Edward biological research laboratory and Oakville chemical analysis laboratory, has been involved in effects monitoring programs of effluent discharges since the early 1970's. In addition to conducting routine ambient biological assessments, the biological research laboratory has been working to develop new and innovative biomonitoring techniques. This biological expertise, together with other corporate capabilities provides a unique addition to any environmental project team. For example, Pollutech Environmental Limited's process engineering group routinely uses toxicity tests and biological monitoring to determine potential impacts of wastewater treatment designs and operating efficiencies. Pollutech also has considerable experience in the design and implementation of customized monitoring evaluations.

Examples of such programs include:

• Fish flavour and aroma trials to determine the ambient effects of refinery/petrochemical discharges. The results of such testing were used by a major Ontario Chemical company in their application for a Certificate of Approval for third party waste acceptance.
• Fish flow through growth studies using Medaka, Rainbow Trout and Fathead Minnows to investigate long term exposure effects on fecundity, growth, and survival. The histopathological response of these organisms has also been investigated.
• Development of insitu research stations for the purpose of "real time" biomonitoring. Experiments performed involve the investigation of point source and non-point source discharges on Rainbow Trout eggs, Daphnia magna, Daphnia pulex and Fathead Minnows.
• Numerous benthic macroinvertebrate studies to determine the impact of effluents) discharges in receiving wastewater's of sanitary treatment facilities, refinery/petrochemical facilities, and organic chemical facilities.
